A guide to London travel with kids – fun attractions and activities

Museums for kids in London

You simply have to visit one of the many museums if you are visiting London! There are 3 amazing museums within Kensington that are conveniently located and appeal to all ages. Some of them have craft activities and visual stimulation guaranteed to keep kids entertained. Check the information desk always for any ongoing kid’s activities upon entry for the museum often runs craft activities and trails.  This year has been an exciting year for the London V&A with the opening of its new wing. The London V&A works hard to provide lots of activities for kids and has launched a new phone app that takes kids on an adventure through the museum encouraging them to stop and learn a little on the way. The Natural history Museum is a hit for dinosaur lovers and children interested in bugs, volcanos and more with lots to see and touch and do. The Science museum offers a fun play space in a basement with lots for the little ones to do, the rest of the museum, however, is a bit of a push button paradise for children who love to push buttons.  There is lots to learn and take in and new things to discover.

Transportation in London

Walking back and forth from one site to another may not be fun for kids. This is why we recommend taking your time and perhaps investing in a hop on and off bus ticket or plan wisely (don’t try and do everything in a day!). If you decide to take the kids around the city yourself on the public system, double-decker buses are a great way to view the city, especially from the upper deck. Public transportation is also free for kids under 14, which can be good if you have kids of that age. A great way to plan out your journey is to use google maps. Google maps are handy as it will show you what public transport methods you can use which is handy if you would like to avoid the tube and do some bus seat sightseeing. It also shows you how far places are to walk, sometimes it is faster and nicer to walk especially you’re going somewhere which involves multiple tube line changes.

Restaurants for Kids London

London is a wonderful place for kids to eat out as many restaurants have great service for kids and kids’ menus to boot. Look for a good local chain restaurant or a unique restaurant in your area. You can switch it up between interesting places, comfort food restaurants, and chain restaurants for some variety.  Fancy something that challenges your kid’s eating habits? Try some of Britons strange specialties such as mushy peas, pickled eggs or for the very adventurous jellied eels.

Accommodation for families in London

Consider that not all hotels in London are equal. There are those such as the Draycott Hotel and Rosewood London with kid-friendly facilities such as Montessori inspired toys and tear-free toiletries. Nevertheless, you should consider vacation rental flats as there are some worth looking at for a good price. You might not get housekeeping service or concierge with an apartment rental; but you will have lots of personal space, a kitchen to cook, and a washer for your laundry. The kids may find this more enjoyable than a hotel room. For something a little bit more like home try out Airbnb’s varied forms of accommodation where you can stay with a host for a more personable experience or rent out an entire flat giving you a little more freedom to get on with the day to day joys and challenges of parenting.

Events and activities for kids

London is a city always buzzing with things to do.  London has tons of free museums and art galleries which offer many kids craft activities during school holidays and during the week for younger children. Sights and attractions are varied from the historically rich Tower of London, which is very popular as it offers a lot of history aside from sights to keep the kids entertained. It has an interesting collection of weaponry and armor and to top it all off, the crown jewels of England are kept here. To the London Dungeon which is bound to thrill and excite older children.

To find out more about what’s going on in London we recommend picking up a copy of the London Planner and Timeout Magazine. Both offer a range of different events from street festivals to Restaurants and more.
